Following the tradition, the Izmail Life Care Center started last school year, we hold an assay contest on a pro-life topic “The value of human life” among the seniors of local high schools. The essay-winner is offered to your consideration.

Human life is valuable. You can't fully comprehend it until you face the problems that put life at stake. Today many mothers are asking themselves if they should give birth to a child or not, if the conditions aren't favorable.
Generally, the birth of a child into this world is a miracle. But nowadays this miracle turns into an everyday occurrence. Birth of a child is treated as purchasing a toy that you can get rid of if you aren't interested any longer or if your circumstances have changed. Some women in this case stop their pregnancy. In other words, mothers kill her babies as a matter of convenience. In my mind, these women commit a crime which isn't legally prosecuted. Such things like taking away the life of your unborn innocent child for your own interest isn't found in any other form of nature.

Still there are mothers who believe that they are doing the best for their child by not giving it birth because they are told that the baby will have some defects. In the first place, they try to ease their life because they are not willing to take care of their handicapped child. Here we can trace the laws of animal nature, specifically natural selection. In ancient Sparta children who weren't good-looking were thrown into the abyss. Many centuries have passed since then, but humans, who consider themselves the most evolved of nature's creatures don't seem to have advanced, quite the contrary - they degrade. Now such children aren't even given a chance to be born, they are being killed in their mother's womb. There are many cases in medical practice when the diagnosis proved to be erroneous since it's very difficult to trace the baby's development. A baby's life is always the choice of the mother. I believe that true mothers will still give their child a chance to live.

A similar situation happens when one person in the same way takes away life of the other close and dear person to relieve the suffering of the second. In this case a sick person with terminal illness is given a lethal dose of a soporific and passes away peacefully. Somehow people change the way they treat the sick person. They try not to disturb, they conceal the truth. Contrary to that at the last moment of his life a person should be able to understand and analyze his life. What do the relatives and close ones do in this case? Of course, they want to relieve the suffering of the sick person but instead of helping him to deal with loneliness, just to be close with no words of comfort, share the unbearable pain, people chose euthanasia. They explain that it was the desire of the terminal sick person not to feel the pain any more, but the worst pain is caused by loneliness.

I believe that people choose abortion and euthanasia out of their own selfishness. They say they want to ease the lives of others but they ease it for themselves instead. Nowadays some people have lost their sense of the value of life. No one has the right to take away what doesn't belong to them.
